Most entry-level oilfield service positions require a valid driver’s license, the ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, and a strong work ethic. Prior oilfield experience is an asset but not always required. Additional certifications such as H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, and CSO are often required and may be provided or supported by the employer.
Oilfield wages vary by role, experience, and location. Entry-level positions typically start with competitive hourly rates, while experienced operators and supervisors can earn significantly more through higher base pay, overtime, travel pay, and project-based incentives. Many oilfield workers earn well above industry averages due to long shifts and rotational schedules.
Safety training commonly includes H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, CSO, and job-specific certifications. Employers also conduct regular Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), equipment training, and ongoing safety meetings to ensure compliance with industry regulations and maintain a strong safety culture.
